Harry Potter.
I have read the Harry Potter series AT LEAST 6 times, first page of the first book to last of the last and it never. gets. old.
I’ve had (or attempted) HP movie-marathons year after year with all sorts of different people and the magic never dies (pun intended).
For the first time in all my HP fandom glory, this year I decided to do things slightly different.
I told Riley I would be up for a HP movie-marathon if he allowed me to read each book in turn before we watched the corresponding movie. At the point we’re at in all the moving chaos, I couldn’t really justify spending an entire weekend ONLY watching HP, although there is definitely a time and place for that, don’t get me wrong.
Let me tell you folks, it’s a really cool experience!
I bet we have different standards of what we would label as a “cool experience”, but take it from The Pagemaster herself.. it’s worthwhile to give this a try.
As I read each book, we watch a bit of its movie (lucky for Riley I’m a fast reader..), stopping when we arrive at the part I’m landed at.
[Okay, okay, OR if I happen to fall asleep. FULL DISCLOSURE: MOVIE BACK RUBS ARE MY WEAKNESS!]
We’re at the very end of the fourth book now and Riley is anxiously waiting for me to finish the last few chapters.
The first three books always whiz by and then the real bricks, the big guns, the whomping willows of the series truly start (my biceps are feeling the heat from all the extra weight). In my opinion that’s my homegirl J.K.’s way of separating the boys from the men.
Last thing I consider worthwhile to comment on is that you can go through almost the whole book without tapping into the second half of the movie.. Those last chapters are fricken MILKKKKED. But we all love it, don’t we?
Of course we do…
It’s HARRY POTTER.
