We’re two weeks away from a Wallace wedding! EEEK!
I am beyond excited to announce that everything is wrapping up nicely in terms of decorations, venue preparations, rehearsal planning, and all the other details you may have read about since Riley proposed.
Time for me to clue you in on the wedding makeup and hair combo I have in store for my day!
One thousand Pinterest photos, four-hundred and ninety (random #, but probably somewhere around there) YouTube tutorials, and hours of at-home-testing later, I finally have the look down pat.
Since when does looking “natural” take more time than looking like you’re going to sing a solo on the broadway production of The Lion King? Who knows…
WEDDING MAKEUP:
I’ve splurged on some Sephora cult classics over the past couple months and have been getting some pretty sweet hauls through my ipsy subscription.
I have to say, I’m a huge fan of online Sephora purchasing. The in-store experience is SO overwhelming for a basic-beauty bride to be. I’ve been a member of the Beauty Insider loyalty program for a few years now and it comes with tons of extra perks when you order online. PLUS, you get three free samples AND there’s a wackload of mobile offers to choose from for deluxe samples / goodie bags to add at checkout. Free shipping over $50 and it comes literally the next day (or the day after). I PROMISE I DON’T WORK FOR SEPHORA, I JUST LOVE THIS SERVICE.
Ipsy’s Glam Bag is something I got into recently. By completing your profile online, once a month you get five hand-picked beauty products in the mail (for a small fee of course…). The products can range from nail polish, to makeup brushes, to bronzer/highlighter duos, and more. Also, the products come in a cute custom bag that can be used for all your trinkets (A HUGE HELP in sorting out my Paris luggage). I’ve only gotten a few products since I started that I didn’t absolutely LOVE, but that’s what friends are for! I swap my products with friends or give them away as gifts when they’re just not for me (ex: eye shadows or deep purple liquid lipstick).
Little old moi will be applying my makeup on the wedding day. I’m too much of a control freak to trust anyone else with something as personal as defining how my face will look in the wedding photos for the rest of time.
Here is a list of the products I’ll be using to create my bride look. I’ll try and go in order of application to give you something to visualize.
-Moisture Bound Rejuvenating Creme (this retails for over $150, but I have a little sample size that has just enough for the big day left): AMOREPACIFIC
-Prime Time Foundation Primer: bareMinerals (you’ll see I really like this brand)
-Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles: Maybelline
–Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream with SPF 30 (outside wedding calls for sun protection!): bareMinerals
–Miracle Perfecting Fluid Matte Glow Creator (got this at the L’Oreal warehouse sale in Montreal on SUPER special): Lancome
-Beauty Blender: Dollarama (’cause I don’t believe in paying hunnids for this tool…)
-Pro Cover Up Concealer in “Pale Ecru” (thanks ipsy!): AURORA
-Loose Setting Powder in “Translucent” (I’m IN LOVE with this and I splurged on the SMALL version and use it sparingly, trust me): Laura Mercier
-Matte SPF 15 Powder Foundation in “Fairly Light N10”: bareMinerals
-Flawless Face Brush (the small one that comes with the starter kit): bareMinerals
-All Over Face Colour (bronzer, although I don’t put it all over my face…) in “warmth”: bareMinerals
-Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in “paaarty” (got this as my free birthday gift from Sephora!): tarte
-Bamboo Blush Brush: Walmart
-Highlighter in “Illuminator” (I’ve become notorious for my highlighter among my work colleagues): Forever21
-Highlighter Brush: Pharmacy -Stay Matte Long-Lasting Pressed Powder in “Transparent 001”: Rimmel
–Eyelash Curler (I swear… these curlers are forever the best): Forever21
–Better Than Sex Waterproof Mascara (I got the small version since I very rarely wear waterproof…): Too Faced
-Ellie Goulding’s Creamsheen Lipstick in shade “Without Your Love” (MOH Hannah got me this limited edition lipstick for my birthday a couple years ago, and I’m so happy I have some left to use on my wedding day!!): MAC
I realize this seems like a lot, but trust me, none of the products are used liberally. They each have their own perfect function to make the masterpiece come to life. I’ve practiced enough to be able to apply all this within about 15 minutes, but I feel like I’ll want to take more time on my wedding day.
I don’t think I’ll be adding any eye shadow or liner to the look. These products tend to make my eyes appear smaller due to my bone structure. In the event that I do want to go a level higher, I’ll sweep a dusty rose colour on my lids, and that will be that.
WEDDING HAIR:
My sister, and bridesmaid, Millie is going to be doing my hair for the wedding. She’ll be styling it with a wand (and glove to protect the fingers!) into loose curls. The plan is to simply pin one (or both TBC) side back and secure with bobby pins. Voila!
I’ve never been keen on getting an elaborate up-do for my wedding. There are some that look so beautiful, but I didn’t grow my hair out for virtually the past year to have it pinned up.
I predict I will want to put it up in a pony tail once the clock hits 10-11pm and I’m out of my wedding dress and into my dancing dress. If not, I fear I’ll overheat and produce an ample amount of neck sweat… TMI!
Hair is MUCH simpler than makeup.
Another detail I’d like to mention is that I decided to go veil-less! I couldn’t find any that sparked joy and that’s truly the only reason I didn’t end up getting one.
I love how these elements (hair & makeup) are so personal. I’m a firm believer that they should be true to your own style. Remember, whatever you choose, it WILL (most likely) be captured on camera, and that counts for something. Especially when you’re bringing out the big bucks to pay for that type of service.
To each bride her own!
