Month #3: Val = Pagemaster
This month was a special one.
Val chose her three books: My Sister's Keeper, Murder on the Orient Express, and Wild.
Riley and I voted for Murder on the Orient Express, by Agatha Christie, which was hitting theatres this month. Meaning, we got to go to the movie theatre for this month's viewing!!

It was so fun!! But I'm getting ahead of myself...
Riley and I traveled to Val's apartment last week and got a grand tour for the first time. Previously, I'd only stepped in the front entrance to pick up her bags on our way to Quebec City. Her apartment is so nicely decorated!!
After a couple glasses of white wine, we got into a juicy discussion about MURDER. Dun dun dunnnn.
****Reminder: don’t read past this part if you can’t risk potential spoilers! I don’t want to be responsible for ruining any punches for you.****
Here are Val's discussion questions from our meeting:
Was it your first Agatha Christie novel? What was your overall appreciation of this novel?
What is the signification of America in Murder on the Orient Express?
What did you think of Agatha Christie’s writing style?
What was your general impression of the novel? Was it believable?
Did you anticipate the ending of the story? If not, which character did you think committed the crime?
Did the author effectively set‐up the story? Did she provide enough clues so that the story could be solved?
Is it helpful for mystery authors to provide somewhat difficult clues to a story, or should they make the crime unsolvable except by the protagonist?
Did you like the character: Hercule Poirot?
Which of the characters in the novel (other than Ratchett) is least likable?
Is the execution of a criminal such as Ratchett/Cassetti, or any other repeat offender guilty of a series of life/soul destroying crimes, ever justified?
Following our discussion, we had some cinnamon buns and pizza. MMmmmm Mmm.
Last night, we went to see the movie!
Fun fact: before we caught the flick, we grabbed dinner and I got Riley a "Red Stripe" beer which is the kind they drink in John Gishham's The Firm (last month's read). Never without a connection to book club. Couldn't have planned the moment better if I tried...
I thought they did a pretty good job at setting up the story in the movie and keeping the audience engaged. The man to Val's left who snored throughout a good 3/4 of the movie didn't get the same impression...
Best part of the movie experience was that we got free Coca Cola polar bear Christmas tree ornaments! So cute. It had nothing to do with the book club or movie, but it's the little things in life.
Until next month! ;)
